Objective: The present study aimed to compare addiction vulnerability and self-harm behaviors between students with and without childhood maltreatment. Method: The research method was a cross-sectional causal comparison. The statistical population of the present study included students with and without childhood maltreatment experience at Urmia University in the 2024 academic year. Among them, 50 students with childhood maltreatment and 50 students without such experiences were selected using the matching sampling method. To collect data, the substance uses propensity questionnaire, the childhood trauma questionnaire-short form, and the self-harm behavior questionnaire were used. The Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance. Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between students with and without childhood maltreatment in addiction vulnerability and self-harming behaviors. Specifically, students with childhood maltreatment had higher levels of addiction vulnerability and self-harming behaviors than students without childhood maltreatment did. Conclusion: The findings of the present study show that childhood maltreatment plays an important role in increasing the tendency towards self-harming behaviors and addiction in students. These results emphasize the need for early identification and intervention in childhood maltreatment experiences to prevent the occurrence of destructive psychological consequences in adulthood.
