Objective: The present research aimed to determine the mediating role of academic avoidance in the relationship between school security and addiction readiness. Method: The method of the present research was descriptive-correlational of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of the research included all male students of the second secondary school in the city of Khorram Abad in the academic year 2022-2023. Among them, 200 people were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method. To collect the data, the School Security Questionnaire, the Academic Avoidance Scale, and the Addiction Readiness Scale. The structural equation modeling method was used to analyze the research model. Results: The results showed that the school security variable had a significant and negative direct effect on addiction readiness. In addition, academic avoidance significantly mediated the relationship between school security and addiction readiness. Conclusion: In a secure school, students can be emotionally and physically safe, and there is mutual respect and trust between school members, while violence, fighting, mugging, crime, academic avoidance, and substance use are seen in insecure schools. Therefore, it is suggested to minimize the tensions by providing a secure environment at school and to increase the positive interactions between the students and the worry-free interaction of the students with the school staff in such a way that the ground is provided to reduce academic avoidance, the result of which can be reduced addiction readiness.
