Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a cognitive rehabilitation program on three cognitive components, including memory, executive function, and processing speed, in individuals with substance use disorders. Method: This study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The statistical population comprised all males with substance use disorders referring to addiction treatment clinics in Rasht in 2025, from whom 30 individuals were selected via convenience sampling and randomly assigned to experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15) groups. The experimental group received 10 individual sessions of Sohlberg and Mateer cognitive rehabilitation program, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the everyday memory questionnaire, the deficits in executive functioning scale, Zahlen–Verbindungs Test, and coding test across three stages: pretest, posttest, and follow-up. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance. Results: The results indicated that the cognitive rehabilitation program had a significant effect on improving memory, executive function, and processing speed in the experimental group compared to the control group, and this effect remained stable at the two-month follow-up. Conclusion: Given the sustained effectiveness of the cognitive rehabilitation program in improving memory, executive function, and processing speed, mental health professionals and addiction treatment centers can utilize this intervention as a complementary treatment protocol alongside other conventional interventions to ameliorate cognitive deficits in individuals with substance use disorders.
