Abstract:   (212 Views)
Objective: The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and emotion regulation therapy (ERT) on mental toughness and emotional capital among adolescent girls with parents suffering from substance use disorders. Method: This study was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population comprised all adolescent girls with parents diagnosed with substance use disorders in Isfahan in 2024. A sample of 45 participants was selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Data collection instruments included the mental toughness questionnaire and the affective capital questionnaire. The first experimental group received eight sessions of ACT, while the second experimental group underwent eight sessions of ERT. The control group remained on a waiting list. Data were analyzed using mixed-design analysis of variance (mixed ANOVA). Results: The results indicated that both interventions were effective in improving mental toughness and emotional capital at the posttest and follow-up stages. Regarding the comparative effectiveness of the two approaches, the findings revealed that ACT was significantly more effective in enhancing mental toughness, whereas ERT demonstrated greater efficacy in improving emotional capital. Furthermore, the results showed that the therapeutic effects remained stable throughout the follow-up period. Conclusion: Both ACT and ERT serve as appropriate intervention methods for enhancing the mental toughness and emotional capital of adolescents with substance-abusing parents.
