Abstract:   (460 Views)
Objective: The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) on attentional bias and visual cue-induced craving in heroin users. Method: This quasi-experimental study employed a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of all heroin users (n=400) residing in the Keramat residential treatment center in Mobarakeh county during 2024-2025. A sample of 90 heroin users was selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Participants were assessed across three stages: pre-test, post-test, and a follow-up period. Both interventions consisted of ten 120-minute sessions (twice weekly), while the control group received no specific intervention. Participants completed the Dot-Probe task for attentional bias and the visual cue-induced craving questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: The results indicated that ACT significantly reduced visual cue-induced craving but had no significant effect on attentional bias. Conversely, MBCT led to a significant reduction in attentional bias among heroin users but did not significantly impact visual cue-induced craving. Furthermore, the observed significant changes remained stable during the follow-up phase. Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that ACT and MBCT are effective interventions for improving visual cue-induced craving and attentional bias, respectively, in individuals with heroin users.
