Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify factors facilitating the avoidance of risky behaviors in members of Narcotics Anonymous. Method: The present study was qualitative and based on a phenomenological approach. The research population was all members of Narcotics Anonymous in Shahrekord, who were selected using the snowball sampling method and a strategy to select participants with maximum diversity, 12 of whom were selected. Data collection was carried out using a semi-structured in-depth interview method and data analysis was carried out using the Colaizzi method. Findings: Based on data analysis, finally, 3 main themes of factors facilitating the avoidance of risky behaviors in members of Narcotics Anonymous were identified, including "transcendence and constructiveness", "care and adaptation", and "inhibitory fears" along with 9 sub-themes. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that only one or a few limited factors are involved in facilitating the avoidance of high-risk behaviors among members of Narcotics Anonymous; rather, these facilitating factors are multiple and multidimensional. By being aware of and recognizing these factors, effective measures can be taken to prevent high-risk behaviors and relapse among members of Narcotics Anonymous.
