Objective: The present study aimed to compare the basic personality traits (based on Eysenck's theory) in fathers of adolescents with high and low vulnerability to addiction. Method: The present research was a descriptive, causal-comparative study. The statistical population consisted of all male adolescent students in the second period of secondary school in Tabriz and their fathers in the academic year 2024. Sampling was performed using a purposive method. Out of 250 male adolescents, 40 individuals with high scores and 40 individuals with low scores on the Iranian addiction potential scale were selected based on two standard deviations above and below the mean. The Eysenck personality questionnaire was also completed by the fathers of the selected adolescents as the sample. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) in SPSS-26. Results: There was a significant difference in the personality traits between the fathers of adolescents scoring high and low on the addiction potential scale. Specifically, fathers of adolescents with higher susceptibility to addiction scored higher on the traits of neuroticism, extraversion, and psychoticism. Conclusion: The pattern of differences suggests that specific personality traits of fathers can be associated with greater adolescent vulnerability to addiction. Therefore, educational and therapeutic interventions, by focusing on the modification and adjustment of fathers' personality traits, can play a role in reducing the potential predisposition to addiction in their adolescent sons.
