Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of unified transdiagnostic treatment on intolerance of uncertainty and self-control in adolescent boys with a predisposition to addiction. Method: This was a quasi-experimental study utilizing a pretest-posttest design and a two-month follow-up period with a control group. The statistical population consisted of all male second-grade high school students in Azarshahr during the first half of the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample for this study comprised 30 adolescent boys susceptible to addiction, who were selected using convenience sampling and based on their cutoff scores on the addiction susceptibility questionnaire. They were then randomly assigned to either the control group (15 participants) or the experimental group (15 participants). Data were collected using the intolerance of uncertainty scale and the self-control scale. The unified transdiagnostic treatment developed by Barlow et al. was administered in 10 weekly 90-minute sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Results: The unified transdiagnostic treatment had a significant effect on self-control and intolerance of uncertainty in participants in the experimental group. Specifically, the treatment led to a significant increase in self-control and a significant decrease in intolerance of uncertainty. The follow-up results also indicated the stability of the treatment effects. Conclusion: By enhancing self-control and reducing intolerance of uncertainty, the unified transdiagnostic treatment may serve as an effective interventional approach in preventing substance use tendencies in adolescents with an addiction predisposition.
