Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of group dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) on pathological narcissism and abstinence self-efficacy among individuals with stimulant use. The study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group dialectical behavior therapy on pathological narcissism and self-efficacy for quitting in people with stimulant use. Method: This was a quasi-experimental study utilizing a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population encompassed all individuals with stimulant use referring to addiction treatment centers under the supervision of the Abadan Welfare Organization in 2023. A sample of 50 individuals with a history of stimulant use was selected via purposive sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 25) or the control group (n = 25). Participants completed the pathological narcissism inventory and the abstinence self-efficacy questionnaire. The experimental group underwent eight 90-minute sessions of group DBT. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance. Results: The results indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups regarding pathological narcissism and abstinence self-efficacy at the posttest stage. Specifically, group DBT led to a significant reduction in pathological narcissism and a substantial increase in abstinence self-efficacy among individuals with stimulant use. Conclusion: It is suggested that mental health and addiction professionals utilize group DBT as an effective intervention to diminish pathological narcissism and enhance abstinence self-efficacy in individuals seeking treatment for substance use.
