Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between the blaming parent mentality and relapse tendency in people with substance abuse problems in recovery. Method: The research method was a descriptive correlational research method based on the structural equation modeling method. The statistical population of the study consisted of all male opioid drug abusers (opium, syrup, and heroin) aged 20 to 50 years residing in 30 residential addiction treatment centers in Golestan province in 2024. In this study, to determine the sample size, according to the number of observed variables and assigning a coefficient of 40 (5 observed variables in the model), and taking into account the possibility of incomplete questionnaires, 225 people were selected as the sample size by a proportional stratified random method. The research tools included relapse Questionnaire of Wright (1993), Lobbestael et al.'s (2010) Schema modes Questionnaire, and Baer et al.'s Mindfulness Questionnaire (2006). In order to analyze the research model, structural equation modeling was used using AMOS-23 software. Findings: The findings showed that there was a significant relationship at the 0.01 level between the blaming parent mentality and mindfulness with relapse tendency in recovering addicts. Also, the beta coefficient (effect) of the blaming parent mentality and mindfulness on relapse tendency in direct paths was -0.294 and -0.241, respectively, and the indirect path of the blaming parent mentality with the mediation of mindfulness on relapse tendency in recovering addicts was confirmed. The research model was confirmed and in general, 28% of relapse tendency can be explained by the blaming parent mentality and mindfulness in recovering addicts. Conclusion: The results show that people with substance abuse problems in recovery who have a greater tendency to relapse have a higher level of the blaming parent mentality and a lower level of mindfulness. Therefore, it is recommended to counselors and psychologists of residential addiction treatment centers that paying attention to these variables is of particular importance in reducing the tendency to relapse in people with substance abuse problems in recovery.
