Neurofeedback: A New Method for Improvement of Crystal Methamphetamine Dependent Patients

Objective: The aim of this study was examining the effectiveness of neurofeedback training on general mental health and severity of addiction in Crystal Methamphetamine dependant patients. Method: On this purpose one hundred substance dependant patients undergoing a medicine treatment, were selected in a lumpy way. In pre test stage, all volunteers were assessed with Addiction Severity Index questionnaire and General Health questionnaire (GHQ-28) and were matched on the base of ASI scores. Then they have been assigned in two groups. One group was specified as experimental group by chance, and the other one as control group. In this experimental study with pre-post test design, experimental group received 30 sessions neurofeedback further usual medicine treatment. Control group just received usual medicine. After finishing the term all two experimental and control group’s patients were assessed again by those questionnaires. Results: Multivariate analysis of covariance showed that experimental group had a significant difference in general psychological health and addiction severity, in comparison with control group. Conclusion: Therefore neurofeedback training can be used to improve the effectiveness of treatment results in Crystal Methamphetamine dependant patients.

Comparison of Mental Health and Family Efficiency between the Addicts’ Families Participating and not Participating in the Sessions of Anonymous Addicts

Objective: The aim of this research was to compare the mental health and family efficiency between the addicts’ families participating and not participating in the group sessions of Anonymous Addicts’ families (Naranan) in city of Kermanshah. Method: It was a descriptive and inferential statistical method project that the total sample size was 30 persons who were selected with simple random sampling among the addicts’ families members participating in Naranan family groups attending for a period of one year or more as well as the same number was the family members of those families with addict who were not attending on those session and came to the Addict Wean Centers accompanied by their patient. After filling the General Health Questionnaire and Family Assessment Data. Results: there was a meaningful difference between the families with addict participating and not participating in the sessions. Conclusion: attendance in the sessions of the Naranan family groups can improve the mental health and family efficiency in the addicts’ families effectively.

Addiction and Drug Abuse: The Role of Automatic Thoughts, Coping Strategies and Neuroticism in Relapse

Objective: Addiction is kind of illness that is determined by several relapse. So finding out the critical factors in this illness and using them in treatment plan is as important as determination of critical factors in relapse. So the purpose of this study was investigation of the predictive role of three factors, automatic thoughts, coping strategies and neuroticism in relapse. Methods: 100 male patients selected through cluster sampling and they were asked to complete questionnaires about those three factors. Data was analyzed through regression and stepwise regression. Results: the only variable among automatic thoughts, coping strategies, neuroticism that can be predictor of relapse frequency is neuroticism, so the appropriate intervention on neuroticism may reduce the relapse frequencies. Conclusion: neuroticism has the most relations with the number of relapses so controling neuroticism results in the reduction of relapses.

Codependency and Validating Spann-Fischer in The Women of Mashhad

Objective: The aim of this study is validating Spann-Fischer (codependency test) and investigating the "codependency" based on characteristics of the substance abuser wives. Methods: Spann-Fischer test normalize using a sample of 507 women. A sample contain of 204 women with addicted husbands who had referred to 33 qutting centers in Mashhad were analyzed and they also were used to validate the test. Results: The results confirm the validity and reliability of Spann-Fischer test, significant. Conclusion: The results emphasize the role of codependency as a factor against addiction treatment.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of self-awareness skill training on the reduction of high-risk behavior in opposite sex relationship among addicted men. Method: The research method was semi-experimental with pre-test, post-test control group. The study sample was male addicts in Kermanshah. They were selected from four centers of addiction by sampling method. 40 people were selected and randomly replaced into the experimental and control group. Self-awareness skills group training on the experimental group was administered. One week after the training test was taken from them. Results: The finding represent significant mean difference between experimental group and control group high-risk behaviors. Conclusion: Results indicated that self-awareness skill training can reduce high-risk sexual behavior among the addicts.

Objective: This study was carried out to compare the personality traits and defense mechanisms in Addicts group and healthy subjects. Method: In This descriptive study by cluster method in access, 100 addicted and 100 nonaddicted people were selected. Used questionnaires to assess defense mechanisms are (DSQ40) and NEO. the data were analyzed with using MANOVA. Result: Data analysis revealed a significant difference between addicted subjects and healthy subjects are used in terms of defense styles and terms of NEO. The data analysis revealed that neuroticism and immature and neurotic defense mechanism is more in addict subjects mature defense mechanism and extravertion, oppeness to exprience, agreeableness and conciosiness is more in healthy subjects. Conclution: According to this results it can be concluded that personality traits and defense mechanisms is one of the main ingridient in accession or tensification symptoms of addiction.

Objective: Current challengeable life, faces young with varied damages. The Purpose of this research was appointment of role of attachment styles in the risky behaviors of students. Method: the method of the project was attachment in descriptive ones. 273 people of students were selected via several stage cluster sample, and answered to questionner of adult attachment and risky behaviors. Results: Results of analyses of data showed that secure attachment style related with risky behaviors negatively and ambivalence attachment style and avoidant attachment style related with risky behaviors positively. Conclusion: Therefore is emphasized on the importance of instruction of families in the field of creation of secure relationship with children and also importance of plans for heighten secure attachment by counseling centers of university.
