Objective: The present study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a family education package on relapse prevention in recovered substance-dependent individuals. Method: The research was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all recovered substance-dependent individuals referring to drug treatment camps in Ardabil city and their families. Among them, 40 recovered substance-dependent individuals and their families were selected using purposive sampling and randomly assigned to the experimental group (n = 20) and the control group (n = 20). The participants in the experimental group received 8 sessions of the developed family education package. A researcher-made questionnaire of demographic and background characteristics and the stimulant relapse risk scale were used to collect data. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance. Results: The findings showed that the developed family education package was effective in preventing relapse in recovered substance-dependent individuals. Specifically, the mean relapse scores in the in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in in the control group at post-test. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the use of the developed family education package can prevent relapse in recovered substance-dependent individuals.
